*** Gifts for Drummers & All Musicians! ***.Tight Bond III is an excellent glue to use. I twisted the pipe over and over causing the rope to tighten, once i got it tight enough to close the crack I tightened the ratchet straps to hold it in place and dry.

What I did was loop a thick piece of rope around the drum and tied a piece of metal pipe to it. When repairing the crack, ratchet straps usually do the job, however I've worked on a few drums where even 3 straps would not pull it tight enough. I think Home Depot can mix you any color in the minwax. For finishing I've had good luck with Watco Danish Oil, Teak Oil, and Minwax. This is usually only the case on older drums that used poor quality glue though. I've seen several projects start with repairing 1 crack and by the time its ready to refinish 3 more have opened up. The orbital sander can be a life saver, however do not be too aggressive with it, the vibrations can loosen the glue between the staves and cause splitting. 200 grit is way too fine to start with, I usually finish with 200 or 320.
